Blackbird, Todmorden

We paid a visit to one of Todmorden’s newest restaurants for a Valentines day treat, Blackbird Bar and Kitchen.

In their own words “We offer a tapas-style menu influenced only by the local, seasonal and organic produce available to us, and the creativity of our chefs” and they are not wrong. We started with a lovely, chilled bottle of Rose Prosecco then proceeded to order from the different sections of the menu. We’d heard good things about the meat options from friends so we thought we had to order at least one example to see if it lived up to our expectations. Safe to say it did this and more. The range of vegetarian options on the menu will certainly appeal to the non-meat eaters of the world and may even make the meat eaters seriously think about becoming a vegi!

Our selections were the Pickled Hot Green Chillies with Lemon Aioli, Beetroot Carpaccio with Goats Cheese and toasted Pumpkin Seeds, Mackerel pâté with toasted Sourdough, Meat Antipasti Board and from the Valentines Specials board Medium rare Fillet of Beef with Pomme Puree and Red Wine Gravy. To say we were impressed would be an under statement and our bellies were definitely satisfied.

The one thing that came as a shock at the end of the night was the bill. Great food and value for money rarely go hand in hand but Blackbird have hit the nail on the head with their food menu, drink menu and prices.

The restaurant has a great buzz about the place with artwork on the walls and music playing as a background soundtrack to your meal. The staff are friendly and passionate about the produce and restaurant but also provide a great service to the customers.

We cannot wait to go back to Blackbird to give some more of the menu a try and also try out the cocktails on offer.
